What would you do with another day in your work week?
Do you and your team…
Have trouble finding time for "A work" because you're constantly dealing with the
tyranny of the urgent?
Constantly work evenings and weekends to finish what you didn't get done during regular
work hours?
Feel buried under mountains of paperwork?
Struggle to keep up with an overflowing email inbox?
The Productive Leader, a program developed by the UK's Institute for Innovation and
Improvement, has helped NHS leaders reclaim up to 20% of their work time for strategic
planning, thinking, and mentoring - through better management of meetings, email,
and workload. And it's coming to Saskatchewan.
The first of three "train the trainer" sessions will take place Tuesday, June 23rd
at the Sheraton Cavalier in Saskatoon. Sessions will also be held in September 2009
and January 2010. NOTE THAT YOU ONLY NEED TO ATTEND ONE SESSION.

Who is the Productive Leader for? Who should register?
At this point, we are targeting the Productive Leader at organizations participating
in the Quality as a Business Strategy initiative rather than individuals. The premise
behind The Productive Leader is that executive leadership should be the first to
apply the program's tools and strategies, then develop a plan for spreading and sustaining
it throughout their organization.
Your organization should register the team that will be ultimately be responsible
for training your executive leadership team and supporting training in the longer
term within your organization. The Productive Leader suggests the two key roles are
Project Lead and Improvement Facilitator.
What is the role of the Project Lead and Improvement Facilitator? What competencies
are required? How big is their time commitment?

How can I register for Productive Leader?
While we're still ironing all the details around registration, we wanted you to save
these dates in your calendar and start thinking about who within your organization
could fill the roles of Project Lead and Improvement Facilitator.
How do I know whether our organization is ready to take on Productive Leader?
The upside of participating in the June session is that you get access to the program
sooner and are part of "beta testing" alongside HQC's leadership team. The downside
is that there are bound to be some hiccups along the way as together we "learn by
doing." If you wait for the fall or winter sessions, you will get a smoother, more
thoroughly tested learning experience, more clearly defined expectations, and a better
understanding of the roles and time commitments. If you have questions about how
to determine if your organization is ready to proceed now, contact
Katherine Stevenson.
How much does it cost to register?
There is no cost to register. Organizations are responsible for travel and accommodation
costs. If the people you register cannot attend (and you cannot identify suitable
substitutes), it is your responsibility to inform us by June 15 (for June 23 workshop).
If we are not notified, your organization will be charged the catering costs for
that person(s).
How many people should we send?
At a minimum you should send 2 people (i.e., Project Lead and Improvement Facilitator).
If you belong to a large organization, we would recommend sending a small team who
could share these roles and ensure there is sufficient capacity to roll out the program
across your organization. Maximum registration per organization is 8.
Who can I contact for more details?
If you are not part of your organization's QBS team and want to know who to talk
to about QBS in your region, contact
Lori Jestin-Knaus. If your organization is part of the Saskatchewan health care
system but is not part of QBS, contact
Katherine Stevenson to discuss your options.
