Moving the Dial: How clinical QI training is changing culture in a provincial health system

Session Description:

How do you change conversations around improving clinical care and engage physicians in leading cultural change? Research shows physicians who participate in quality improvement (QI) learning report higher satisfaction, are more actively involved, and show enhanced performance and better patient outcomes.

Through formal and informal learning, Saskatchewan is building clinician capability for leading QI. The Clinical Quality Improvement Program (CQIP) is an essential component of the learning pathway for developing passionate and skilled clinical leaders.

As we gear up for Cohort 5 of this program, learn more about what makes it tick – and how it’s moving the dial in changing culture in health care.

Speaker Bios:

Dr. Gary Groot is a surgical oncologist and an Associate Professor in the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada. He was part of the initial design team that created CQIP and has served as faculty since the program began. He is passionate about health system improvement, cancer research and Indigenous health research.

Bonnie Brossart is the CEO of the Saskatchewan Medical Association. SMA is a key funding partner for the CQIP program. Prior to SMA, she was CEO of Health Quality Council where she helped lead the Saskatchewan Chronic Disease Management Collaborative, at that time one of the province's largest quality improvement initiatives ever undertaken.

Shari Furniss is Director of Collaborative Learning & Development at HQC. She has had the privilege of being part of the CQIP team since the beginning. As an educator, she loves seeing the culture change that come from learning as a community.
